Ipswish April 1843
Mr. Curtiss,
Dear Sir. I wish you to get 600 Cedar posts. 15 feet long not less than 6 inches inside the bark. When I wrote last I said that not less than 5 In(ches) at the butt would do, now you perceive they must be 6 inches at the butt. Not less than 3 at the top. Want you to get as many as possible by the first trip at the lowest price possible. Please write me as soon as the Ice is Clear so that I can get to Hampden.
Yours, John J. Philbrook
John James Philbrook lived most of his life in Ipswich, Massachusetts and is presumed to have died there on July 5, 1894. He is buried at the Old North Cemetery in Ipswich.
