This document at one time had a bill of sale for the Schooner "Midas". Written in letter form, though not mailed, it was addressed to the "Custom House, Bath, Me." Dated "January 24, 1846 - Pittston" (Maine), it reads, "Sir, Please to enter the Schr Midas as owner by me as per enclosed bill of sale. Resply yours & c. B. S. Philbrick - by E. A. Chadwick his att'y."
"B. S. Philbrick" probably is: BENJAMIN S.8 PHILBRICK (BENJAMIN7, BENJAMIN6, JAMES5, EBENEZER4, JAMES3, JAMES2, THOMAS1
Benjamin Philbrick was the older brother of Levi G. Philbrick who was a "mariner" from Pittston, Maine in the 1850's (see 1850 Census records). Benjamin lived in Mt. Vernon, Maine in 1850. Benjamin Philbrick, being the eldest, may have purchased the vessel as an investment and had his younger brother work on board, possibly even as Captain.
