This 1838 land deed is signed by Abigail G. (Page?)-Philbrick, widow of James Philbrick. The PPFA has made a tentative identification of Abigail and James of this document. The deed mentions two other Philbricks as having land bordering the land specified in the document: Simon Philbrick (apparently still living at the time) and "land formerly owned by David Philbrick." We have taken this to refer to DAVID6 PHILBRICK (JAMES5, JOSEPH4, JAMES3, JAMES2, THOMAS1) who was born June 30, 1767 in Hampton, NH and died February 15, 1831 in Ossipee, NH. David Philbrick was married to Jane Marston.
Prior to the document, the PPFA had James Philbrick who was married to Abigail Page. They are buried at New Cemetery in Kensington, Rockingham Co., NH. This James is the same one who was killed in an explosion on December 17, 1835 in Lowell, Massachusetts. That record comes from "Joseph Philbrick's Records of Deaths" which was transcribed in Volume II of Vital Records of Hampton, New Hampshire to the End of theYear 1900 (page 530) by Sanborn & Sanborn. Abigail G. Philbrick of the deed is living in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1838 as are descendants of David Philbrick's son Samuel Philbrick.
Jacob Chapman's book doesn't list a "James" as a child of David Philbrick (1767-1831), however, based on the above information and the clues listed in the 1838 deed, we feel that James Philbrick (abt. 1800-1835) is the son of David Philbrick and his wife, Jane Marston. Anyone with additional information that will provide further evidence to this connection is encouraged to contact us at info@philbrick-genealogy.org
