"We regret to announce that Sgt. George Henry PHILBROOK of Company G, 6th Maine Regiment, was shot through the neck and instantly killed in the famous charge of Howard's Brigade during the late series of battles at Fredericksburg. They were within about 100 feet of a Mississippi Regiment when the fatal shot was received. The entire Rebel regiment were taken prisoners and are now in Washington unless paroled or exchanged. His native place was Kendalls Mills, but he resided here for more than two years previous to his enlistment last fall. (Additional narrative omitted.)"
